Am currently trying to figure out how to kill a bunch of Putus Templar - have taken one down across the map border, but the rest seemingly won't play along with that kind of cheap trick. Am ten levels down, have found a Vibrokopesh (on a corpse lying near a cryo block, which still contained a sky-bear clone) and some other good but less notable gear, have survived to experience level 14. Got another carapaced double-muscled regenerating warden, and this time it really took off. Maybe you get a new feel for the caves of qud if you try. The best gear in the game is also available down there if you get deep enough. That said, there will be random encounters and people to trade with in the underground, even barathrumite tinkers if you're lucky. Try this and tell the story! My esper was socially repugnant which I think goes well with the challenge - not only do you almost never meet any merchants, they won't be nice either. However I died having XP level 12 at Level 5 Underground by stepping in front of a chaingun turret. I had already found a force bracelet and night vision goggles from trash piles and the space time vortex respectively, both items are great survival gear in the underground. I was levelling up surprisingly quickly, although my high level follower was dampening it (You get the XP reward that is modified by the follower's level for each of its kills). A super strong companion! So it was kind of a dream start. I went by a space-time vortex at level 4 or 5 though, and there I found a Pink eyless crab king that I beguiled. The best armour I found was just a chitinous puma vest (3 0). My first playthrough was an Ego-heavy esper that started with beguile. Here's a way to play the game that I'm trying now after having played it a lot:Ĭreate a character, visit Joppa and then descend into the underground and never look back.
